I don't do internet dating or anything of the sort. I don't look down upon it or frown upon it but I'm more of a traditional, 'hi, how you doing' face to face type. So I was reading about Samsung, a South Korean company, pulling out of Circuit City and an ad popped up about International Korean dating: http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2008/10/117_33495.html I usually brush these annoying ads off but the girl on the ad was cute so I clicked and looked at the goods. To my astonishment many of these were cute... a little too cute. I think this is a scam, they probably got some pictures off people's Facebook or Myspace and wrote some bullcrap on their profile. So beware of these types of sites! Read more...

The Ace of Spades has been employed, on numerous occasions, in the theatreof war. In the Second World War, the soldiers of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the American 101st Airborne Division were marked with the spades symbol painted on the sides of their helmets. In this capacity, it was used to represent good luck, due to its fortunate connotations in card playing. All four card suits were used for ease of identification of regiments within the airborne division following the confusion of a large scale combat airborne operation. Battalions within the regiments were denoted with tic marks or dots, marked from top clockwise; Headquarters at the twelve o'clock position, 1st Battalion at the three o'clock, et cetera. Some twenty years later, the Ace of Spades was again used by American soldiers — this time as a psychological weapon in the Vietnam War. US troops erroneously believed that Vietnamese ancient traditions held the symbolism of the spade to mean death and ill-fortune and in a bid to scare away NLF soldiers without firefight, it was common practice to leave an Ace of Spades on the bodies of killed Vietnamese and even to litter the forested grounds and fields with the card. This custom was erroneously believed to be so effective, that the Bicycle Playing Cards company was asked to supply crates of that single card in bulk. The crates were often marked with "Bicycle Secret Weapon".[7] -Wikipedia.com So there you have it. Read more...

This is a comment from someone who don't even know how to play 'Go Fish' let alone the concept of poker: "I'm not sure how to approach this, because it might be a touchy subject, so I'm just going to go ahead and say it. Is the Ace of Spades character supposed to be African-American? Judging from his dialogue in the first panel of the YMCA strip, I assumed he was. If so, that's... well, sort of incredibly racist. I know it's not a commonly used slur anymore, but the term "spade" used to be (and likely still is) an offensive slurring way to refer to someone of African decent."-Scott That just kills me. OK, here is my rebuttal: (http://verbmall.blogspot.com/2006/05/mistakenly-racist-terms.html) "Mistakenly racist termsQ. A friend of mine became upset when I used the phrase “to call a spade a spade.” She says that it’s a vicious racist term. Is she right? Your friend is dead wrong, and it’s a sign of our hypersensitive times that innocent words are often branded as offensive. Quite bluntly, such a reaction is the product of ignorance. Poker players know the concept of position and card ranking so they understand the comic and the characters, however, I supposed some ignorant people might get the wrong idea if they don't understand the concept of poker. So let me say this AGAIN! Spade and Diamond does NOT represent any race, religion, or creed. They represent the EGO and the ID of human personalities and this is all in the CONTEXT of the gaming world. The Ace of Spade is the highest card in the deck so no wonder he has that swagger. Spade doesn't represent black people, he just represents the Ace of Spade. The only reason why he's black is because the spade suit is black, DUH! Read more...
